Q: Do I have to declare my Wise account to the French tax authorities?
A: Yes, you must declare your Wise (formerly TransferWise) account – even if you only use your account occasionally or it holds very little money – if you’re a French tax resident and either held or used a Wise account in 2024.
Wise accounts are treated as foreign financial accounts even if they offer a French IBAN number. Under French tax law, all foreign accounts must be declared and those who don’t incur a penalty of €1,500 fine per undeclared account.
To declare, check the foreign account box in your tax return and complete form 3916/3916-bis.
